Los ejemplares fueron recolectados en la Ciénaga de Majaguillar, al noreste de la provincia de Matanzas, Cuba, sobre Calophyllum antillanum Britton (Calophyllaceae). La especie se diagnostica e ilustra con base en material colectado en este estudio. The effect of mating on the maturation of its ovaries was determined. In order to do this, three-month old mated and virgin females were used which were counted from Opuntia ficus indica cladode infestation (in Montecillo, Mexico). The morphophysiological characteristics of the degree of maturation of their ovarioles were evaluated. Mating was not needed to start the maturation of the ovarioles, because in virgin females, a low percentage of oocytes successfully complete vitellogenesis and choriogenesis; however, mating promotes both processes, since the proportion of mature oocytes produced in mated females noticeably increases. Similarly, lack of mating in D. coccus was a factor that induced degeneration of the ovarioles, and consequently, the resorption of their oocytes.Publicación Acceso abierto Insectos escama (Hemiptera: Sternorrhyncha: Coccoidea) de Baracoa, Guantánamo, Cuba. Relación con sus hospedantes.(2013-10-29) Mestre Novoa, Nereida; Hodges, Greg S.; Takumasa, Kondo; Herrera Oliver, Pedro; Rodríguez Farrat, Lázaro; Hernández Marrero, ArturoEl objetivo de este trabajo fue determinar la composición taxonómica de los insectos escama (Hemiptera: Sternorrhyncha: Coccoidea) en ecosistemas naturales del municipio de Baracoa, macizo montañoso de Nipe-Sagua-Baracoa, provincia de Guantánamo; obtener la relaci´on de sus plantas hospedantes y su distribución. Se revisaron las Colecciones Zoológicas del Instituto de Ecología y Sistemática (CZACC), Cuba; las publicaciones cubanas sobre los cocoideos y ScaleNet (base de datos de los insectos escamas del mundo). Se realizó una representación cartográfica de las localidades de recolección de las especies de cocoideos sobre un mapa a escala de 1:250000, utilizando el programa MapInfo Professional Versión 4.5. Se hallaron 24 especies de cocoideos, agrupados en 18 géneros y cuatro familias; 20 especies se registraron por primera vez para el ´area. Veintiuna especies resultaron polífagas, cosmopolitas o de amplia distribución y una especie monófaga. El 86.4% correspondió a especies introducidas, el 9.1% a especies nativas y el 4.5% a origen desconocido. In order to identify the host plants of the above pest species, farms with coffee crops from previously reported infested coffee areas were randomly selected. On each farm, transects were traced and weeds were pulled in order to record the number of plants present per morphospecies and the presence of P. barberi and T. Coffeae on each one. For weed identification, two plants per morphospecies were preserved and the insects found were stored in 76 % ethanol. Eighty-five transects were sampled, producing 6,880 plants belonging to 22 families, 37 genera and 38 species for evaluation. P. barberi was recorded on 20 of the 38 plant species found, and predominated on Eirmocephala brachiata, Sida rhombifolia, Conyza bonariensis, Amaranthus hybridus, Leonurus japonicus and Emilia sonchifolia; with values ranging between 14 % and 30 %. Toumeyella coffeae was recorded on nine species, with Erato vulcanica (11.43 %), Leucaena leucocephala (11. 11 %) and Emilia sonchifolia (8.87 %) being the most frequent hosts. Taking into account the most common botanical species found in the coffee areas of Norte de Santander, as well as the most frequent plants hosting both insect pests in the field, it was concluded that S. rhombifolia, E.sonchifolia, and C. bonariensis contained the highest populations of P. barberi and T. coffeae. Se provee una diagnosis y se describe por primera vez la morfolog´ıa externa de la hembra adulta de C. rhizophilum.SUMMARY Cryptostigma rhizophilum Kondo (Hemiptera: Coccoidea: Coccidae) is reported from the roots of the OxG oil palm hibrid (Elaeis oleifera x E. guineensis) (Arecaceae). In order to develop integrated pest management programs, it is necessary to identify the species associated with this crop. In this study, 768 specimens from 85 samples collected from coffee roots in Norte de Santander and Valle del Cauca were analyzed. Ten genera belonging to four families were identified. Puto barberi, Toumeyella coffeae and Dysmicoccus varius were the most recurrent species. Dysmicoccus mackenziei, Dysmicoccus radicis and Mixorthezia minima are recorded for first time in Colombia. Coffea arabica is reported to be a new host for Phenacoccus solani and a new species of the genus Pseudorhizoecus is described.
