Los géneros pertenecen a las subfamilias Agrypninae, Cardiophorinae, Cebrioninae, Denticollinae, Elaterinae, Lissominae y Prosterninae, con un rango altitudinal que abarca desde el nivel del mar, hasta los 2600 msnm. In this study, volatiles emitted by healthy J. regia and by plants infested with M. ohbayashii primoriensis (Coleoptera: Buprestidae) were obtained by a dynamic headspace method and analyzed by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (Shanxi, China). We identified 26 major compounds and compared the volatile composition of healthy and buprestid-infected J. regia. Green leaf volatiles were detected in all damaged plants, including the monoterpenoids β-phellandrene and (E)-β-ocimene, the sesquiterpenoids (-)-β-bourbonene, β-ylangene, and (E,E)-α-farnesene, the alcohols linalool, myrtenol, and (E)-(-)-pinocarveol, the ketones (E)-pinocamphone and (Z)-pinocamphone, and the ester methyl salicylate. The major volatiles detected in healthy plants were β-pinene (36.26 %), α-pinene (23.81 %), D-limonene (12.03 %), sabinene (8.63 %), and β-myrcene (4.35 %). The main volatiles from M. ohbayashii primoriensis larva-infested plants were β-pinene (37.82 %), α-pinene (20.36 %), D-limonene (14.71 %), germacrene D (5.24 %), sabinene (4.52 %), and β-phellandrene (3.80 %). These results enrich our understanding of volatiles of healthy plants and plants infested with M. ohbayashii primoriensis. Las hembras son mas grandes que los machos y se aparean en sitios de agregación donde se constituyen grupos reproductivos. A diferencia de lo que ocurre en otras especies de Cerambycidae, en ésta, es la hembra la que escoge y separa el sitio de apareamiento. Los grupos reproductivos están dominados numéricamente por las hembras, a veces hasta en proporciones de tres hembras por cada macho. The diversity of epigeous Coleoptera in Hualo forests, highly sensitive to changes, has been scarcely documented in Chile. It was evaluated the seasonal diversity of epigeous Coleoptera in three habitats (hualo forests, pine plantations, and mixed formations of pine plantations and hualo forests) in the area of Constitución, central Chile. During the spring and summer were established three random linear transects of 100 m in three mature stands of each habitat, where 10 pitfall traps were installed every 10 m. For each habitat, the composition, abundance, and richness of epigeous beetles were estimated. The diversity of species was calculated per season using the Shannon-Wiener (H’), Pielou (J’), Chao 2, and Jacknife 1 indexes. Besides, rarefaction curves were built to estimate the expected richness. Nineteen Coleoptera native species belonging to 11 families were detected. In spring, the relative abundances of Coleoptera were significantly higher in pine plantations, followed by mixed formations and hualo forests. In summer, although the abundance was reduced, the predominance in the pine plantations remained stable. The relative richness in pine plantations and hualo forests was similar and superior to mixed formations in summer. However, it was inferred from the rarefaction curves, that only the sampling effort in summer was appropriated. The H’ index was higher in mixed formations in spring, and in N. glauca forests in summer, coinciding with the highest J’. Since then it has become the main insect pest of coffee in this area. The aim of the present study was to document the mycobiota associated to H. hampei adults in coffee plantations of three localities of Tabasco: Teapa, Tacotalpa and Huimanguillo. Coffee berries infested with the coffee berry borer were collected from the field and adults of H. hampei were extracted. The fungi that grew on the Scolytinae cadavers were isolated and identified using taxonomic keys. Two isolates of each morphological species were molecularly identified. A total of 74 isolates was obtained from the cuticle of H. hampei. Of them, 52 presented morphological affinity with Fusarium solani, five with F. oxysporum, five with F. verticillioides, one with Geotrichum candidum and 11 with Beauveria bassiana. The DNA sequences showed similarity with sequences found in GenBank, with homologies of 99 % and 100 %, which coincided with each morphological species. The most abundant species was F. solani (70.2 %), followed by B. bassiana (14.8 %). The species F. verticillioides and F. oxysporum represented each one, at 6.7 %, respectively. The least abundant was G. candidum (1.3 %). The findings of the species F. verticillioides and G. candidum are new reports of micromycetes fungi associated with H. hampei. This study contributes to the knowledge of the diversity of fungi associated with H. hampei.Publicación Acceso abierto Monitoring methods of weevil adults of citrus Compsus viridivittatus (Coleoptera: Curculionidae: Entiminae).(Universidad del Valle, 2019-12-31) Carabalí Muñoz, Arturo; Cardona, David Andrés; Sociedad Colombiana de Entomología - Socolen; Universidad del Valle; Montoya Lerma, JamesThe efficiency of two adult monitoring methods for pest Compsus viridivittatus in several regions in Colombia: tarpaulin on the floor (TF), for the detection of adult populations in the tree, and cone-shaped ground traps (CT) for young populations emerging from the soil was evaluated. Studies were conducted in four independent plots located in Caicedonia (Valle del Cauca, Colombia), for 51 weeks in a completely randomized design with 20 replicates / method / plot / locality. The sampling effort in all localities amounted to 160 trees per week. During the study, 1,961 emergent adults (1,363 females: 598 males) were obtained using CT and 5,060 adults (3,117 females: 1,943 males) were obtained with TF. The highest average number of catches occurred during periods of maximum rainfall (60-103 mm / week), with 2.5 adults caught using CT and 5 adults caught using TF. Significant differences were found in the abundance of populations between plots; the TF range was 10-24 adults/trap and the CT range was 4-20 adults/trap. The sixty-six percent (66 %) correlation found between methods / plot suggests that changes in population abundance can be explained by the dynamics of populations emerging from the soil. In summary, the results indicate that independent use and / or combination of the methods can be useful as a criterion for decision making about the time and type of alternative to implement for the reduction of C. viridivittatus populations.Publicación Acceso abierto Pasálidos : distribución y efecto de la deforestación en el transecto altitudinal Tumaco-Chiles (Nariño).(2013-07-12) Lozano Z., Fabio H.Se obtuvo información taxonómica y ecológica de Coleópteros Pasálidos estudiando siete localidades del transecto altitudinal Tumaco-Volcán de Chiles (Nariño). Durante el estudio se colectaron 6 géneros (26 especies). Petrejoides, Pseudoarrox, Publius, Veturius, Verres y Passalus. The aim of this study was to test the attraction of three aphid predators of the Chrysopidae, Coccinellidae and Syrphidae families using synthetic formulations of four main HIPVs [methyl salicylate (MeSa), benzaldehyde (B), linalool (L) and farnesene (F)] alone and in binary combinations (MeSa + B; MeSa + F; MeSa + L; F + B; B + L; F + L) in an apple orchard in the Bursa province of Turkey. This study was the first demonstration of the attraction of these aphid predators to single and binary combinations of synthetic HIPVs in an apple orchard. A larger number of coccinellids were captured using single treatments of both B and F than with other HIPV combinations. Furthermore, the chrysopid individuals studied were significantly attracted to traps baited with single HIPVs. In addition, the binary combination of MeSa + L significantly attracted more Syrphids than in both single treatments and control traps. Since 2010, there has been a phytosanitary crisis in the peach palm (or chontaduro), Bactris gasipaes in the Colombian Pacific Region which can be attributed to two species of palm weevils: Rhynchophorus palmarum and Dynamis borassi. It has been proposed that deforestation of native palms, used by these weevils, induces these to find new resources in the peach palm. This study examined the association of these two weevils with native palms near chontaduro crops and how this occurs in two types of habitats. Six secondary forests and six anthropogenically disturbed areas were visited in third administrative division: “corregimientos” 1 and 2 (Zone A) and 7 and 8 (Zone B) in the municipality of Buenaventura. Three 50 x 100 m plots were designated in each zone, all palms with damage being recorded; the sampling was also complemented with a free sample. Twelve palm species distributed into one subfamily and nine genera were identified. A total of 271 unopened inflorescences were examined in Zone A and 501 in Zone B. Only evidence of damage was found in individuals of the “milpesos” palm (Oenocarpus bataua), an economically exploitable species. The proportion of palms affected in terms of habitat was significantly higher in the disturbed habitat. This is the first record that quantifies a high percentage of association between D. borassi and the “milpesos” palm in the Colombian Pacific Region, a phenomenon that could be explained by agroecological hypotheses.Publicación Acceso abierto Use of color traps and alcoholic attractants for the capture of the coffee berry borer (Hypothenemus hampei) in highly infested coffee plantations.(Universidad del Valle, 2019-12-31) Leiva Espinoza, Santos; Oliva Cruz, Manuel; Rubio Rojas, Karol; Maicelo Quintana, Jorge; Milla Pino, Manuel; Montoya Lerma, JamesMass capture is a technique widely considered in the control of the coffee plague of greater economic importance in the world. This work was carried out in the province of Rodríguez de Mendoza, Amazonas region, Peru, with the objective of analyzing the effect of artisanal traps of different colors and attractive alcoholics in the capture of adults of coffee borer adults, Hypothenemus hampei, in a highly infested plantation, and its implication in reducing the incidence of damage caused by this pest. Six treatments generated from the combination of levels of the following color factors (transparent, red and green) and alcoholic attractants (without and with coffee essence) were evaluated. The test was conducted in a randomized complete block experiment design. The incidence of coffee berry bore damage was measured in periodic measurements every 30 days, while the capture levels (adults / trap) were evaluated every 15 days. The obtained data was subjected to an analysis of covariance, detecting statistically significant differences between the treatments and once applied the multiple comparisons test, specifically minimum significant difference, it was evidenced that the red trap without essence of coffee captured a greater number of adults (with a maximum of 4,000 adults / trap / week) and proved to be more effective in reducing the incidence (43.7 % less than the initial incidence). On the other hand, the least effective trap was the transparent one without coffee essence.
