Macroglossia designates a condition where the tongue in rest position protruyes beyond the alveolar edge. The tongue is an important structure in vital functions as swallowing, phonation and breathing. It participates in the development processes and craniofacial growth. Macroglossia can cause dentomusculoskeletal deformities, create problems in the mastication, speech and handling of the airway and instability of orthodontic treatment or orthognathic surgery. The knowledge of signs and symptoms of macroglossia and their difference with the relative macroglossia or pseudomacroglosia will contribute to identify these patients who can be intervened on time with a surgical or not surgical procedure according to the case, with the purpose of improving their function, aesthetics and to assure the stability of the treatment. SUMMARY Objective: Determine the stages of vertebral bone maturation in children 8-14 year-old belonging to Colombian mestizo population at the Valle del Cauca. Materials and methods: Cervical bone maturation is an effective method to determine the pubertal growth spurting children, this allows to evaluate the ideal time to iniciate orthodontic or orthopedic treatment. In 130 lateral radiographs beloning to children 8 to14 year-old from records of the graduate orthodontic clinic of the university colleges of Cali Colombia were analized using cervical bone maturation according to the Baccetti modified method. Results: We found that children in this age range had their pubertal growth spurt at 12 to 14 year of age. Conclusion: The cervical bone maturation stage (CVS3) corresponding to the pubertal growth peak in the age group12 to14 yearold is reached first by the girls. SUMMARY The purpose of this review is identify the possible diagnostics methods of the Temporomandibular Joint that can determine the behavior of itself when oclusal changes occur. In addition, the secondary objective are know relevant information about occlusion, Temporomandibular Joint (TMJ), bite turbos and contemporaneous diagnostics methods for the TMJ and near structures. A literature reviewed with a total background of 44 articles. Those articles include concepts of functional occlusion, Temporomandibular joint development and the importance on the patient’s occlusion pattern, also the Bite Turbos as an important mechanism to help the orthodontic treatment, and finally the reports that supports diagnostics methods to evaluate de Temporomandibular complex like the Cone-Beam Computer Tomography as a vanguard method. We concluded that the Cone Beam CT was an excellent method to evaluate the Temporomandibular complex, and has a great relationship between riskbenefits. In addition, we conclude that there were insufficient information about the possible effects on the Temporomandibular joint using the Bite Turbos appliance. It´s important to realize a case - control trial that evaluated those possible effects.
