The effect of mating on the maturation of its ovaries was determined. In order to do this, three-month old mated and virgin females were used which were counted from Opuntia ficus indica cladode infestation (in Montecillo, Mexico). The morphophysiological characteristics of the degree of maturation of their ovarioles were evaluated. Mating was not needed to start the maturation of the ovarioles, because in virgin females, a low percentage of oocytes successfully complete vitellogenesis and choriogenesis; however, mating promotes both processes, since the proportion of mature oocytes produced in mated females noticeably increases. Similarly, lack of mating in D. coccus was a factor that induced degeneration of the ovarioles, and consequently, the resorption of their oocytes.Publicación Acceso abierto Estudio Histológico de la ovogénesis del atún aleta amarilla Thunnus albacares (Bonnaterre, 1788) en el Pacífico de Colombia.(2013-08-12) Quintero, FernandaDel análisis de 186 atunes aleta amarilla Thunnus Albacares capturados por la flota atunera en el pacífico de Colombia durante 1990, se establecieron diferentes etapas del desarrollo gonadal, y se analizaron las diferentes etapas de la ovogénesis se proponen cuatro (4) etapas de desarrollo: Ovocito tipo 1 (diámetro ovocitario 149-263p), ovocito tipo III o estadio inicial de vitelogénesis (ovocito entre 263-550)p) y ovocito tipo IV o estadio final de vitelogénesis (530 a de diámetro)
