Two finite difference discretization approaches of the Fourier’s 3D heat propagation model are introduced, from which a new technique is proposed to enhance the thermal contrast of infrared sequences of images acquired from pulsed active thermography experiment for non-destructive testing of CFRP slabs. The discrete models defined are easily adaptable to a spatial filter structure, which can be applied to each image of the infrared sequence to obtain a better contrast between possible internal flaws and sound regions of material, and hence, a better probability of flaws detection. The performance of the technique proposed is evaluated using artificial thermal sequences generated by ThermoCalc6L, software that is able to compute dynamic thermal distributions in anisotropic layered solids, simulating internal defects and different excitation sets. Results show that this technique offers a better contrast between defects and image background than other relevant techniques like modified-differential absolute contrast, and a potentially faster execution than techniques based on thermal distribution reconstruction like the 3D thermal filtering method. Resumen Se introducen dos aproximaciones por diferencias finitas al modelo clásico de Fourier de propagación del calor en 3D a partir de las cuales se propone una nueva técnica para mejorar el contraste térmico en secuencias de imágenes infrarrojas adquiridas a partir de experimentos de termografía activa pulsada para ensayo no destructivo de láminas delgadas de CFRP. Los modelos anteriores se adaptan fácilmente a una estructura de filtro espacial que puede aplicarse a cada imagen de la secuencia con el fin de obtener un mejor contraste entre posibles defectos internos y las regiones sanas del material, y por tanto, una mayor probabilidad de detección. El desempeño de la técnica propuesta se evalúa empleando secuencias artificiales sintetizadas con el software ThermoCalc6L, que permite computar las distribuciones de temperatura en láminas sólidas anisotrópicas, simulando defectos internos y diferentes esquemas de excitación. Los resultados muestran que la técnica propuesta ofrece un mejor contraste térmico que técnicas relevantes como el contraste absoluto diferencial modificado, y una velocidad potencialmente superior de ejecución sobre las técnicas basadas en la reconstrucción de la distribución térmica, como el caso del método de filtrado térmico 3D.

Un gran número de ciudades en el mundo y en América Latina están desarrollando en la actualidad proyectos de transporte masivo con base en el modelo y la experiencia colombiana del sistema de transporte rápido en bus (BRT, bus rapid tránsit), el TransMilenio de Bogotá que se caracteriza por el uso de buses articulados de ´plataforma alta´ en carriles exclusivos y estaciones elevadas cerradas. El artículo compara el sistema TransMilenio de BRT con la alternativa del transporte masivo con la tecnología de buses de ´piso bajo´. En diversos sectores manufactureros, el ciclo de vida de los productos es cada vez más corto. La aplicación directa de técnicas convencionales de pronóstico y control de inventarios a productos de corto ciclo de vida (SLCPs) no es efectiva porque su demanda es transitoria, no estacionaria y altamente variable. En este artículo, desarrollamos un método heurístico de fácil implementación para el control de inventarios de SLCPs durante su temporada de ventas. El método heurístico comprende un submodelo de un solo despacho al comienzo de la temporada de ventas y un submodelo que considera múltiples despachos a lo largo de dicha temporada. Ambos modelos trabajan bajo un ambiente de inventario manejado por el proveedor (VMI) dentro de una cadena de abastecimiento con una bodega y N detallistas, donde se busca minimizar el costo total relevante del sistema, compuesto por los costos de devoluciones, los costos de faltantes y los costos fijos de despacho. Estos últimos costos han sido escasamente considerados en la literatura para productos de corto ciclo de vida. En el modelo de múltiples entregas, se determina el tamaño de envío mediante una adaptación del conocido modelo de la cantidad económica de pedido (EOQ). El inventario de seguridad es determinado mediante la razón crítica del modelo del vendedor de periódicos. Con base en datos reales de ventas de una empresa productora de textos escolares, se compara el desempeño del método heurístico con la estrategia actual de despachos de la firma. En todos los casos de prueba, el costo total relevante del método heurístico fue menor que el de la actual política de control de la compañía.

(Eng) A bounding volume is a common method to simplify object representation by using the composition of geometrical shapes that enclose the object; it encapsulates complex objects by means of simple volumes and it is widely useful in collision detection applications and ray tracing for rendering algorithms. They are popular in computer graphics and computational geometry. Most popular bounding volumes are spheres, Oriented-Bounding Boxe s (OBB’ s), Axis-Align ed Bound ing Boxes (AABB’ s); moreover , the literature review includes ellipsoids, cylinders, sphere packing, sphere shells , k-DOP’ s, convex hulls, cloud of points, and minimal bounding boxe s, among others. A Bounding Volume Hierarchy is ussualy a tree in which the complete object is represented thigter fitting every level of the hierarchy. Additionally, each bounding volume has a cost associated to construction, update, and interference te ts. For instance, spheres are invariant to rotation and translations, then they do not require being updated ; their constructions and interference tests are more straightforward then OBB’ s; however, their tightness is lower than other bounding volumes. Finally , three comparisons between two polyhedra; seven different algorithms were used, of which five are public libraries for collision detection.

En este artículo se describe una metodología de implementación del algoritmo de Rijnda el para el proceso de encriptación. Se utilizó el estilo de diseño asíncrono con la ayuda de una herramienta conocida como Balsa, la cual permite simulación funcional, descripción y síntesis de circuitos digitales asíncronos. Los resultados obtenidos corresponden a implementaciones que utilizan los protocolos de codificación dual-rail y 1-of-4, para bloques de datos y claves de 128 bits sobre una plataforma hardware de un arreglo de compuertas reprogramable por el usuario (FPGA). Para la síntesis automática sobre la FPGA se utilizó la herramienta Xilinx ISE, que muestra un completo nivel de integración con el sistema Balsa.

A simple regionalization approach as an alternative to obtain rainfall data in a tropical and ungauged catchment

(Eng) The availability of rainfall information with high spatial resolution is of fundamental importance in many applications in the field of water resources. Commonly, the rainfall data in developing countries are obtained by rain gauge stations. However, many studies show that traditional measures based on rain gauge stations may not reflect the spatial variation of rainfall effectively. Although satellite data have been widely used around the world, when applied to local regions the spatial resolution of these products is too coarse. In this paper, an approach to identify a downscaling method through geostatistical regionalization to improve water resources models with short spatial and temporal scales and with limited rainfall data is presented. Three different models were applied: Cokriging, Inverse Distance Weight (IDW) and Kriging. Statistical parameters such as mean absolute error (MAE) and root mean square error (RMSE) were computed. A cross-validation process showed a better fit for most of the stations using the Cokriging method. The regionalization results were quite comparable with the rain gauge stations data. Although the model outcomes did not improve remarkably, the contribution of this approach may have the potential to provide useful rainfall data at spatial scales shorter than the present resolution.

But this approach is inconvenient because there are many approximations and each one can produce a different result for the same data set. This work shows how to reduce the search of kinetic parameters to a non-linear regression calculating the temperature integral through the incomplete gamma function. In this way the use of approximations is avoided and dependence of the preexponential factor on temperature can be included in the model. An isoconversional analysis of a data set available in the literature is used to explain the proposed method.

The degree of process efficiency and the marketing evaluation for this product in Colombia is as yet incipient. This study presents the traditional system for panela production, from a technical and engineering perspective, also highlighting some aspects of qual - ity and innovation. Improvements to the traditional furnace design, extraction and milling, clarification, and heat transfer are analyzed. By criteria of competitiveness and efficiency, was evidenced the need to continue the development and transfer of innovative technological alternatives. It is also imperative the participation of the panela producers in new and potential markets.

En este documento se presenta una revisión de las propiedades microestructurales y macroestructurales decementantes de activación alcalina basados en escorias granuladas de alto horno, metacaolín y sus mezclas, desarrollados por el Grupo Materiales Compuestos de la Universidad del Valle durante la última década. Resultados de durabilidad de cementos activados cuando son expuestos para agentes agresivos tales como cloruros y dióxido decarbono son reportados. Los resultados de esta investigación han elucidado la gran viabilidad de la adopción de latecnología de activación alcalina en Colombia para la producción de concretos de alto desempeño basados en subproductos industriales, con un rango amplio de propiedades que puedan ser adecuadas para diferentes aplicaciones de infraestructura civil, y contribuye a la valorización de sub-productos industriales de bajo costo a través de la producción de materiales de construcción más amigables con el medio ambiente. Nuestros resultados resaltan el hecho que un entendimiento profundo de la química de estos sistemas permite la manipulación de la microestructura y por lo tanto el desempeño de los productos finales hacia la producción de materiales sostenibles y versátiles.

El advenimiento de las redes de próxima generación (NGN) es una realidad en el desarrollo de las telecomunicaciones. Si bien su introducción constituye un salto tecnológico, también representa un enorme reto desde el punto de vista de la seguridad. El presente artículo realiza un análisis integral sobre aspectos relacionados con la seguridad de estas redes. Inicialmente, se abordan las amenazas que se heredan de las redes telefónicas públicas conmutadas (PSTN), las redes de datos de protocolos de Internet (IP) y las redes de televisión, así como la forma en que éstas se combinan, para obtener las amenazas propias de las NGN. Luego, se analizan los mecanismos de defensa de las redes que convergen en las NGN para proponer los mecanismos de defensa aplicables a estas últimas, los principios de su combinación, así como los requerimientos de las herramientas de seguridad. El análisis presentado constituye un importante primer paso para organizar y hacer homogéneo el trabajo de seguridad en NGN.

An area efficient high speed, fully on-chip low dropout –LDO- voltage regulator

(Eng) This paper presents the design of a low-dropout voltage regulator which has a low area and power consumption, as well as an improved transient response. The area reduction is achieved by biasing the power transistor in the triode region. In addition, a dynamic bias network is used in order to reduce its settling time to 300ns for any change in the load current from 100μA to 100mA. The regulator is designed in a Silterra 0.18μm standard CMOS technology and brings a regulated output voltage of 1.8V. All the circuit is biased with 2.3μA only at loads smaller than 1mA, and can recover within 0.3μs for maximum load and input voltage changes. Moreover, the regulator does not need any external capacitor to guarantee its stability.

Digital Video Broadcasting (DVB) es un consorcio formado por industriales de los medios de comunicación, que está integrado por radiodifusores, fabricantes, operadores de redes, desarrolladores de software y organismos reguladores. El consorcio fue creado con el fin de definir las normas técnicas para estandarizar todos los aspectos relacionados con la prestación de servicios de televisión digital. El estándar DVB ha sido adoptado en Europa, Oriente Medio, Suráfrica y Australasia. Adicionalmente, el estándar DVB fue seleccionado en Colombia y Panamá como el sistema de transmisión de televisión digital terrestre (DVB-T/T2). El estándar DVB es un conjunto de especificaciones que permiten la integración de información multimedia para proveer servicios de información, educación, negocios y entretenimiento. La implementación de DVB requiere de acuerdos entre los radiodifusores, operadores de redes y fabricantes en la definición de los parámetros de operación, además de tener en cuenta las normativas gubernamentales. Este artículo presenta un resumen de los principales elementos definidos en el estándar DVB-T/T2, basado en los documentos guía elaborados por el consorcio DVB, e incluye algunas de las acciones tomadas durante el proceso de implementación de DVB-T/T2 en Colombia.

Anaerobic digestion of food waste. Predicting of methane production by comparing kinetic models

(Eng) Anaerobic Digestion (AD) of food waste (FW) reduces risks to human health and environment, also increases the life of landfills, and mainly is an important strategy to produce energy renewable as methane. Kinetic models can determine the influence of the factors that affect the process of AD and predicts more precisely methane production in order to prevent overestimation or underestimation, which may lead to the definition of real criteria to implement the technology. This study evaluated by means of Biochemical Methane Potential (PBM) assays, the AD of FW from a university restaurant using as inoculum sludge from a UASB reactor in charge of treating municipal wastewater. The factor evaluated was the influence of Substrate-Inoculum (S/I: 0.5, 1, 2 and 4 gVSsubstrate·gVSinoculum -1) ratio. For the prediction of methane were applied the kinetic models: Transfer Function, Logistics Function and Modified Gompertz models. It was found that the S/I ratio affect both, the efficiency of AD process and prediction of methane production, presenting the better results for S/I ratio below one. Within the kinetic models evaluated, the Logistic Function presented the best settings for predicting methane production and lag phase (R2> 0.9).

For the development of this article, we worked using the PDCA cycle (Plan - Do - Check - Act). It is a model based on process management and continuous improvement of them, with a simple application and used properly, can help a lot in the realization of activities, both productive and administrative, in a more organized and effective way. Therefore, adopting the PDCA cycle provi des a simple guide for the management of activities and processes, the basic structure of a system and it is applicable to any organization. After the implementation of Cowrie and HoneyPy, it was possible to identify different patterns and ways to attack, guiding the configuration of a script in the IDS (Intrusion Detection System) server, allowing with the stored logs to create rules and implement it over Iptables. This fact allows become the IDS Server a node into a network of sensors feeding the database globally for an investigation of the attacks on all connected and configured computers, obtaining information to make a major analysis for the final user. The design of infrastructure with honeypots, implemented at the District University Francisco José d e Caldas allows finding security failures belonging to university's servers due to computing attacks. A new network distribution was designed for registering information about the different attacks and enabling effective solutions to be apply to the univer sity.

Analysis of spatial distribution of malaria in the department of Chocó for the year 2016

(Eng) The present investigation has as purpose the estimation of a generalized linear spatial regression model of Poisson distribution that allows to explain the geographic-spatial behavior of malaria for the department of Chocó for the year 2016. The probability maps were the result of statistical techniques spatial data type Lattice such as criteria of figures, distances and physical contiguity, in order to determine the existence of a spatial relationship of the disease in question. To verify this spatial autocorrelation among the municipalities of the department of Chocó, it was carried out based on the statistical interaction of sanitary, environmental and demographic variables such as the population of each municipality. However, it was necessary to perform a Gaussian anamorphosis process to guarantee the normalization of the data in standardized morbidity rates (SMR) and thus identify the statistical structure of the data that for this year were from a Poisson distribution. The study allowed the identification of positive spatial autocorrelation in some municipalities of Chocó, such as Paimado, Istmina and Tado, where ma - laria is more likely to occur due to its municipal proximity according to the physical relationship of certain study variables. It was obtained as a result that the variables that best explain malaria in the Chocó municipalities are the coverage of forests and unsatisfied basic needs that give as a product the map of spatial autocorrelation and the map of probability of occurrence among the municipalities of the department.

Analysis of the bicycle change strategy for hilly time-trials

(Eng) The uphill time-trial is a cycling race in which there is at least one mountain pass or a combination of low and high gradient sections. Usually, climbing cyclists achieve good results in uphill time-trials; however, in addition to the cyclist’s ability, the race strategy is also important for achieving good results. As part of the race strategy, the selection of the type of bicycle is important. The time-trial bicycles usually reduce aerodynamic drag while the traditional road bicycles are lighter. Taking into account the road gradient profile of the race, as part of the bicycle selection strategy, the cyclist can change the type of bicycle during the race to take advantage of each one in specific sections of the route. This paper presents a methodology for planning the bicycle change strategy for some ideal routes with simplified road gradient profiles. An optimization problem is stated to minimize the race time and to find the location on the route where the bicycle change must be done. The methodology is applied to three simplified road profiles to define if the bicycle change strategy is beneficial when different cyclist’ power output levels are analyzed.

Analysis of the environmental sustainability of buildings using BIM (Building Information Modeling) methodology

(Eng) The construction sector is currently facing two important challenges with regard to minimizing the environmental impact of its projects and improving the efficacy of the construction processes, providing clients with adequate solutions that meet their requirements. In response to the need to complete projects that satisfy environmental requirements, methodologies for project integration known as Building Information Modeling (BIM) have emerged in recent years. These methodologies enable the generation of digital models that contribute to minimizing errors and to the early detection of incompatibilities, and they allow participants to work in an integrated manner. These methodologies show notable synergy with sustainability, as digital modeling provides information about the performance of projects during their useful life, enabling the analysis of different options to minimize their environmental impact. The objective of the present study is to examine the performance of a construction project in Colombia in terms of sustainability by using a BIM platform to determine the electrical energy consumption, the carbon footprint of materials, and the total energy incorporated into the project using simulations. In addition, the generation of alternative designs and the analysis of the results will be performed considering the economic viability of the proposed scenarios.

Analysis of the Recycling Sector in Intermediate Cities . Study Case – Neiva, Colombia

(Eng) The economic activity of recycling belongs to an unfortunate and marginalized segment of society in Colombia. This fact translates in high rates of informality and a general perception about people that work in this activity, which come usually from extreme poverty, bu rdened by discrimination, drug addiction, and rejection. The goal of this research was to determine the most significant factors impacting levels of society and economics. For this purpose, we carried out a mixed analysis in the chain of the recycling sect or in Neiva, an intermediate city. Because of the informality of waste pickers’ union, official information and field survey were conducted to identify the waste commercialization establishments. The collection and transportation process were identified, a nd a survey was applied to 50 waste pickers and ten recycling companies. Seventy - two percent of the population is constituted by male gender, older than 25 years, in an unsafe condition, and with labor intensity of 8 hours per day (average). On the other h and, forty percent of companies have labor - related personnel, which confirms a high level of informality in the sector. The most commercialized product is cardboard, and the vast majority only purchase and commercialize the material
