La irrupción de la modernización en las sociedades latinoamericanas - específicamente en Colombia - en el medio de siglo 20 dio a la ingeniería una posición preeminente, es decir, un capital simbólico de gran tamaño. Este trabajo sostiene que, teniendo en cuenta la historia reciente de Ingeniería Industrial en Colombia, el punto de inflexión para América Latina a considerar la necesidad de infraestructura y la educación de ingeniería para una "nueva sociedad urbana en el crecimiento" se remonta a 'de 1949 EE.UU. el presidente Harry Truman el desarrollo del habla. También se sugiere que la educación de nuestros ingenieros ha sido impuesta por las necesidades de los países desarrollados. Con la imagen de arriba en la mente de este trabajo intenta analizar las características de la educación en ingeniería industrial debe tener para satisfacer las necesidades de la cultura colombiana. ABSTRACT The theoretical foundation of this paper comes from Bourdieu‘s notion of the university as a social space not only for the education of people but as a place for the interrelation and tension of different professions. The sudden advent of modernization in Latin American Societies - specifically in Colombia - in the middle of 20th Century gave engineering a preeminent position, that is, a large symbolic capital. This paper argues that, considering the recent history of Industrial Engineering in Colombia, the turning point for Latin America to consider the need for infrastructure and engineering education for a ―new urban society in growth‖ can be traced to the 1949 U.S. President Harry Truman‘s ‗development speech‘. It is also suggested that the education of our engineers has been imposed by the needs of the developed world.
