    El estado asmático es una entidad que se ve con relativa frecuencia en los servicios de emergencia; el pilar de su tratamiento son los esteroides y los ß-agonistas. Sin embargo cuando el enfermo no responde favorablemente al tratamiento se debe recurrir a otras alternativas como: adrenalina subcutánea, anticolinérgicos, aminofilina, sulfato de magnesio, helio, gases anestésicos, etc. Sólo 5% de los casos de asma severa requieren ventilación mecánica pero en tales ocasiones la mortalidad puede ser 13%. The status asthmaticus is an entity that is seen with relative frequency in the emergency services; the bases of its treatment are the steroids and the ß-agonists. However when patients do not respond favorably to treatment, it is neccessary to appeal to other alternatives such as subcutaneous adrenaline, anticolinergics, theophylline, magnesium sulfate, helium, anaesthetic gases, etc. Only 5% of the patients with severe asthma require mechanical ventilation but in those patients the mortality can be as high as 13%.
