Publicación Acceso abierto Actual knowledge and expansion of the distribution of the Tricorythopsis rondoniensis (Ephemeroptera, Leptohyphidae).(Universidad del Valle, 2016-12-30) Gomes Dias, Lucimar; Cárdenas López, Tatiana; Laython, Marco; Sociedad Colombiana de Entomología - Socolen; Universidad del ValleWith this work, the known distribution of Tricorythopsis rondoniensis in Colombia is expanded, with the first record of this species for the Amazonas and Guaviare Colombian departments. Additionally, the known distribution of T. rondoniensis expands in the department of Meta, with a new record for the Municipality of San Juan de Arama, the closest to Andean region for the genus. These findings extend the records of this species in Colombia and corroborate the proposed distribution for the genus Tricorythopsis.Publicación Acceso abierto Ants (Hymenoptera: Formicidae) of Durango, México.(Universidad del Valle, 2019-12-31) Soto Cárdenas, Miguel Angel; Vásquez Bolaños, Miguel; Gutiérrez García, Cipriano; Correa Ramírez, Miguel Mauricio; Torres Ricario, René; González Güereca, Martha Celina; Chairez Hernández, Isaias; Sociedad Colombiana de Entomología - Socolen; Universidad del Valle; Montoya Lerma, JamesAnts are eusocial insects of wide functional and taxonomic diversity, with worldwide distribution in various terrestrial ecosystems (some introduced by man), with the exception of the poles and in the high mountain peaks. About 15,947 species have been described. In Mexico, 973 are known within 94 genera, and for the state of Durango 60 species are registered within 25 genera. However, the Formicidae knowledge in Durango State is limited as it has received little attention; this is mainly due to the lack of specialists, as well as the territorial extension of it. In order to know the myrmecofauna of the state of Durango, collections were made every 15 days between August 1, 2016 and August 1, 2017, in 56 sites in 19 municipalities located in different ecoregions of the State. Forty (40) species belonging to 24 genera were collected; the Myrmicinae subfamily was the most diverse with 21 species, followed by Formicinae (12 spp.), Dolichoderinae (5 spp.) and Dorylinae and Ponerinae with one species each. Ten (10) more ant species are registered for the state of Durango, the richness increasing from 60 to 70 species and from 25 to 32 genera. This study represents the first effort to know the myrmecofauna of the state of Durango, Mexico.Publicación Acceso abierto Checklist with a key to genera and subgenera of dung beetles (Coleoptera: Scarabaeidae: Scarabaeinae) present and supposed for Ecuador.(Universidad del Valle, 2018-07-08) Chamorro, William; Marín Armijos, Diego; Granda, Valeria; Vaz de Mello, Fernando Z.; Sociedad Colombiana de Entomología - Socolen; Universidad del Valle; Montoya Lerma, JamesThe beetles of the Subfamily Scarabaeinae are a group that have been used in taxonomic, ecological, natural history, biodiversity and conservation studies recently, as they are good indicators of habitat quality and due to their great genera and species richness. Their taxonomy is relatively well known, however new taxa and nomenclatural changes are frequently ocurring, mainly due to taxonomic revisions at the genus level. Currently in the Neotropics, 127 taxa (between genera and subgenera) are recorded, with 59 taxa belonging to 33 genera and 220 species (with 23 new records) present in Ecuador, and nine more genera that allegedly could be registered. With the aim of promoting the study and knowledge of this group in Ecuador, an identification key for the genera and subgenera present and/or supposed to be present in this country is provided in this work, which includes current taxa with Scarabaeinae (Coleoptera: Scarabaeidae) for the neotropic.Publicación Acceso abierto Ecological aspects of Sphaeroceridae (Diptera: Acalyptratae) in dry tropical forest of the Colombian Caribbean.(Universidad del Valle, 2017-06-30) Medina Chavarria, Juan Diego; Sociedad Colombiana de Entomología - Socolen; Universidad del ValleSphaeroceridae is associated with a wide variety of anthropogenic and natural habitats. In Colombia this group has not been studied extensively, therefore the purpose of this investigation was to determine the genera present in the tropical dry forest ecosystem in the Colombian Caribbean coast and some ecological aspects in relation to nycthemeral activity, habitat and bait preference. Three environments (urban, rural and forest), from the departments of Cesar, Cordoba and Magdalena were sampled using van Someren Rydon traps baited with human feces, decomposing fish and decomposing fruit. Nine traps were placed in each department, with one per bait and ecosystem, over a period of 72 hours, with collection taking place every 12 hours. In total 147 individuals belonging to six genera were obtained of which Archiceroptera and Bromeloecia are new records for Colombia.Publicación Acceso abierto First record of the genus Lithophorus (Coleoptera: Bothrideridae) to Colombia and L. ornatus to South America.(Universidad del Valle, 2016-12-30) Forero Avellaneda, Santiago; Amarillo Suárez, Ángela R.; Sociedad Colombiana de Entomología - Socolen; Universidad del ValleThe genus Lithophorus (Coleoptera: Bothrideridae) has previously been recorded in several countries in the Americas but not in Colombia. This study reports the finding of this genus with the species Lithophorus ornatus in Colombia for the first time. The species constitutes also a new record for South America. Publicación Acceso abierto Taxonomy and distribution of Tapinoma ants (Formicidae: Dolichoderinae) in Colombia.(Universidad del Valle, 2018-12-31) García Avendaño, Emira I.; Guerrero, Roberto J.; Sociedad Colombiana de Entomología - Socolen; Universidad del ValleThe species of the genus Tapinoma are reviewed for the first time in Colombia. Four species are recognized, T. litorale, T. melanocephalum and T. ramulorum are recorded and described, as well one undescribed species. A taxonomic key based on the workers, images and distribution maps are provided.
