dc.description.abstractLos trastornos temporomandibulares (TTM) constituyen una condición frecuente que impacta la función mandibular, la calidad de vida y la salud general. La fisioterapia ha demostrado ser un componente esencial en su manejo conservador; sin embargo, la evidencia disponible es heterogénea. El objetivo de esta investigación fue mapear la literatura científica publicada entre 2012 y 2024 sobre la clínica de los TTM y las intervenciones fisioterapéuticas descritas. Se realizó una scoping review siguiendo la metodología del Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) y la guía PRISMA-ScR. La búsqueda y selección de la literatura permitió incluir 161 estudios que abordaron la clínica de los TTM y los enfoques fisioterapéuticos aplicados. Los hallazgos evidencian diversidad de diseños metodológicos y estrategias de intervención, entre las que destacan la terapia manual, el ejercicio terapéutico, la educación al paciente y técnicas complementarias. Los desenlaces más reportados fueron la reducción del dolor, la mejora de la apertura mandibular y la calidad de vida. La fisioterapia constituye un pilar en el manejo interdisciplinario de los TTM. No obstante, persisten vacíos relacionados con la estandarización de protocolos y la calidad metodológica de los estudios, lo que señala la necesidad de investigaciones más robustas y contextualizadas en Latinoamérica.spa
dc.description.abstractBackground: Temporomandibular disorders (TMD) represent a prevalent condition that negatively affects mandibular function, quality of life, and overall health. Physiotherapy has been increasingly recognized as a core component of conservative management. However, the available evidence is heterogeneous and fragmented. Objective: This scoping review aimed to map the scientific literature published between 2012 and 2024 regarding the clinical presentation of TMD and physiotherapeutic interventions described in the field. Methods: The review was conducted according to the Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) methodology and the PRISMA-ScR guidelines. A comprehensive search strategy was applied in major databases, and studies were included if they addressed clinical features of TMD and/or physiotherapy-based interventions. A total of 161 studies met the eligibility criteria. Results: The findings highlight a broad range of research designs and intervention strategies. The most frequently reported physiotherapy approaches included manual therapy, therapeutic exercise, patient education, and complementary techniques. Clinical outcomes were primarily related to pain reduction, improvement of mandibular range of motion, and quality of life. Despite consistent reports of positive effects, the methodological heterogeneity and lack of standardized protocols limit the comparability and generalizability of results. Furthermore, most studies originated from Europe and Asia, with relatively few contributions from Latin America. Conclusions: Physiotherapy plays a key role in the interdisciplinary management of TMD. Nevertheless, gaps remain in the standardization of protocols, methodological quality, and long-term follow-up of interventions. Future research should prioritize high-quality randomized controlled trials, protocol development, and context-specific studies in Latin America.eng
